Chris Alvord has been a senior executive in information security, risk, continuity planning, consulting and technology for 20+ years in numerous industries. He holds ISO 27001 Information Security and ISO 2230 Continuity Planning international certifications, as well as MBCI, CBCP, and HIPAA credentials. In risk and continuity planning, he founded a consultancy that became an industry-leading software company and led numerous complex, large-scale projects. Mr. Alvord has been an Adjunct Professor at NYU and the USDA Graduate School, was a certified teacher for DRII, and co-authored an extensive curriculum. He has BA in Economics with honors from Harvard College, MBA in Finance from Harvard Business School, and has done doctoral course work at Virginia Tech.

Johnson B. Awe

Johnson B. Awe has been for the past nine years, the Head of Emergency and Business Continuity management at Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO), based in Muscat, Oman. Prior to joining PDO, he worked as Corporate HSE Manager in oil and gas Service Company; HSE Manager in a seismic exploration company among many others. In his present role, he is responsible for the overall emergency and business continuity management for PDO.

Johnson is an excellent team player and a self-motivated professional with over 26 years diverse field experience in a multinationals' setting that cuts across HSE, emergency/disaster and business continuity management, IT disaster recovery, fire detection/alarm systems, engineering as well as wider risk management in the oil & gas industry and others. His key achievements included: creating the first business continuity plan for PDO from scratch; continuing the maintenance of the BCMS – BIA/BCP review; conducting over three live full-scale BC/IT DR exercises – to ascertain the effectiveness and robustness of the BCMS; conducting over 20 in-house BC training and awareness sessions for the BC team members; embedding business continuity management into the organisational culture of PDO to increase overall company resilience; identifying, evaluating, selecting and obtaining final approval for a BC fallback site; a member of the project team for the selection, evaluation and building of the first IT disaster recovery offsite mobile modular data centre, the first in Oman; Lead implementer in the first ISO-27001 certification process of the company information security management system. He has received PDO's Chairman Award for Excellence for full implementation of IT-DR Offsite and PDO's Director Award for full implementation of Business Continuity Fallback site and IT-DR Offsite.

John is a partner with Foresight PR a full-service public relations firm that helps clients build and maintain reputations, ease change, inform and educate, prevent disorder, sell products and ideas, retain and attract employees, slow rumors and promote truth. Foresight PR's specialty is the prevention of communications crises, or, if called in with the bases loaded and nobody out, a minimization of reputational harm.

Michael J. Fagel, Ph.D., CEM

Michael Fagel, Ph.D., CEM, has had a remarkable career in emergency management, a career that has spanned more than 32 years and has taken him from serving as a volunteer with the Aurora Illinois Civil Defense Agency during the Cold War to ground zero following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

 Between then and now, Dr. Fagel has served in various capacities within the American Red Cross, the Aurora Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),various federal agencies and with Department of Defense contractors.

He also has more than 25 years experience as an instructor at numerous colleges and universities.

Larry Herriott, MBCP

Larry is a self confessed business continuity bigot with over 20 years in business continuity, disaster recovery and crisis management planning. Larry holds DRII and BCI certifications and has served on the DRII Certification Commission.

Larry has held contingency planning positions as Business Continuity Program Manager for a major international company responsible for business continuity for the corporate and subsidiaries in the U. S., the U.K., and Canada, and as the Business Continuity Program Manager for a major aerospace company.

In his work life prior to contingency planning, Larry started in the information technology field as a programmer and has held positions as Programmer, Systems Analyst, Programming Manager, Manager of Systems and Programming, Manager of Manufacturing Systems and Director of MIS (CIO).

Andrew Lee

Andrew is the Director of DRBCM Associates Pte Ltd, a company that specializes in offering training and consultancy services in BCM related subjects.

Prior to April 2007, he was the regional head of Business Continuity Management in Deutsche Bank supervising the program in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region. Over the 8-1/2 years, he had helped to build a team of 12 full-time BCM staff based in over 5 countries. He started his career in business continuity management in end 1998 after spending 17 years as a global markets trader.

Between 2008 and 2009, he was the Principal Trainer for DRI Singapore tasked with preparing participants for their BCM qualifying examinations leading up to professional certification with Disaster Recovery Institute International.

Since January 2010, he took on the role of Asia Campus Director for The ICOR University and is its main trainer in the Asia and Middle-East regions in BCM and crisis management and communications subjects. He is an ISO 22301 Lead Auditor.

Over the last nine years, he had assisted more than fifteen organizations implement their respective BCM systems with some even attaining third-party certification status as a result. He is also a regular speaker at BCM related conferences and workshops sharing his experiences with the industry.

Consulting background includes education and planning for financial institutions, healthcare, business operations, data centers, city and county government. Recovery experiences include building fire, flood and earthquake. In addition a Mitigation Specialist for FEMA, and instructor and training partner with The International Consortium for Organizational Resilience.

Master Business Continuity Professional and has been a certified professional since 1992. Active member and has held VP and director positions at the Colorado Rocky Mountain Chapter of ACP. He is a frequent speaker, writer, instructor and practicing professional both domestically and internationally. Jim holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, has earned the MBCP certification from DRI International in 1998 and served as DRI's Lead Instructor from 2002-2006.

He is chairman of the board for ICOR, is a board member for the Northern Illinois Chapter of ACP, and is a member of IAEM.

Jim also serves as the Business and Relationship Management Consultant to International Association Management, Inc.

Bryon Price

Bryon is a Global Director of Critical Environments Training for JLL – Jones Lang LaSalle. He started his career in the Navy Nuclear Power program where he first learned what mission critical is all about. Bryon immediately showed aptitude towards training at his first station about the USS Hawkbill – a nuclear powered submarine – where he was placed in charge of training, drills and preparation for evaluation by Naval Reactors. His next station was no different – Bryon was placed in charge of training and development of the nuclear maintenance team about the USS Samuel Gompers – a destroyer tender. He left the military with Honors and a new found appreciation for critical operations.

Bryon took his military background and knowledge and applied this to building operations and maintenance. He has spent the majority of his career in the pursuit of perfecting the processes and attaining the knowledge that are central to his understanding of the training needed to keep mission critical systems up and running. Among his list of expert qualification include a diverse understanding and qualifications – including:

Al Sawchak

Al is the Business Continuity Specialist at Duquesne Light in Pittsburgh focused on organizational resilience. He has over 25 years of risk management and business continuity consulting experience. Prior to DQL, Al was the Consulting Director at Fairchild Consulting. He also served as a senior consultant with SunGard Availability Services and Strohl Systems. Prior to that, he was a Risk Management Consultant at Zurich Insurance Group in their Wall Street office and in their US Headquarters. He has authored numerous industry magazine articles and conducted numerous training sessions on a variety of risk management and business continuity topics. He has been a featured international speaker in a variety of forums including Conference presentations at DRJ, Continuity Insights, NEDRIX and the Discover Card annual BCP summit. His article on utilizing Social Media in Disasters was published by Forbes.

He has earned the MBCP certification and is also a Certified Organizational Resiliency Manager and Supply Chain Risk Associate through the International Consortium of Organization Resilience (ICOR) as well as an Associate Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (AFBCI). He has recently been appointed to the ICOR Governing Board. He has earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM) designations as well as being an ISO 22301 Lead Auditor. Al has also been recognized by the State of Delaware for Outstanding Contributions to their annual exercise program.
